There is some buzz about websites and retail stores giving out free white coffee mugs in recent months. This is of course primarily to drive traffic to the stores and hopefully convert it to sales.
But, for us consumers, it is really free? There are two things that we need to consider when going for freebies such as this, first is the time spend on looking and getting the item, secondly is the thing or information that we need to give in order to get it.
There are many websites that offers things with no charges but unfortunately, more than 50% are hoax and it is no better than a 10 to 20 percent discount. With so many websites giving out false information, some time would be spend looking for the real information.

Personally, I think that the amount of time spends searching for it and sometimes queueing hours for free stuff are not worth the time investment.
And on top of that, the things like the mugs that you are getting are not really free. Usually, at the very minimum you would have to give your particulars, like your name, address and contact details.
These details are known as leads and depending on the companies that requires this information, it can be sold for as much as $5-10 per lead. So, every time you hand out your particulars, you are inviting advertisements, hoards of it, to be send to you.

What do the dots (1 dot, 2 dots, 3 dots) mean on lid of a Braun coffee grinder?

Posted by Admin on 04 Sep 2010 | Filed under: Uncategorized

I have a Braun coffee grinder with no owners manual. It is very simple–no settings, white… The lid has dots, as if it’s measuring something. What is it measuring? How many ounces? Cups of coffee? If it is measuring cups of coffee, is it whole bean measurement or after grinding measurement? I can not locate the product manual online either. We have a 12 cup coffee maker at work and I want to make sure I am using enough coffee!! I use a french press at home, so am not familiar with how to measure coffee for 12.

What do you think of my writing?

Posted by Admin on 03 Sep 2010 | Filed under: Uncategorized

I sat at the chair with a small mug of coffee at my hands. I was not expecting anyone to call at such a late time, but all of a sudden, interrupting the hum of TV, the phone rang. I got to my feet and replied. A shrill voice replied. “Hello, can I speak to Mr. McCain.”

“I’m Mr. McCain, how can I help you?”

“Your mother is dying,” she said, sighing. “She wants to see you.”

After giving me the address, I hurried to my room and got dressed. I was unlocking the door and getting ready to leave when my reflection in the golden mirror at the wall caught my attention. I peered at my pale, long face. I have not shaved for two weeks and the hair was growing taller among the zits at my cheeks.

I knew Mom was ill with cancer, but I have not seen her for five months and she would be angry with me before she dies. I thought of returning, but I could not. Before he died three years ago, Dad told me to be beside Mom when she is leaving; I was just fulfilling his wish.

I took my car to the hospital. It took me sometime before I reached Mom’s room. She was lying on a white, iron bed with glucose bags hanging from the ceiling beside her. Her hairless head was wrapped in a white towel and the veins at her slender hands were getting thicker.

“Mom,” I said, approaching her bed. “Can you hear me?”

“Jim,” she coughed and raised her head to the ceiling. I ran at her and after offering her a cup of water, she smiled and said, “I’m just fine, they told you I was dying.”

I lowered my eyes and wrapped her hand between my long fingers. “I came because I haven’t seen you for a long time; I really missed you.” I kissed her hand and patted it as I placed it back on the white sheet.

“I want to tell you something,” she said, “I love you Jim.”

“I love you to Mom,”

I looked towards the window for a moment. Did I truly love her? I could not find an answer or may be I was afraid to find one. Throughout my life, Mom had been nothing but a blurry figure of a workaholic woman with beautiful green eyes, nothing less, nothing more.

“ Mom,” I said, “ I’m sorry if I hurt you one day.”

“ me to darling,” she ran her warm hand over my cheek. “ I was never there for you; I guess that I’ll spend sometime in hell for that.”

“It’s ok. I’m beside you, now.”

She closed her eyes, breathed in and her chest collapsed. She was dead.

I told no one. I walked out of her room with my hand placed at my cheek where she placed her hand some minutes ago. I loved her and I never knew it. She was gone and I realized how important she had been for me.

We usually spend our lives forgetting the ones that really matter and after they die, we begin to wish for things that never happened. We begin to wish that we have spent much time with them; we wish that we hugged them; and we wish that we‘d told them how much we loved them.

If you were served on paper plates at a formal attire only 8 course meal, would you be upset?

Posted by Admin on 03 Sep 2010 | Filed under: Uncategorized

If you attended a supposedly sheik after 6 type affair were formal dress was required and were served on paper plates and plastic serving wear to include expensive and fine wines and other beverages served in plastic Dixie cups, and main courses and desserts served up on thin one ply paper plates that frequently soaked through, along with having to use only plastic forks and spoons and paper napkins, and dessert coffee served in white styrofoam cups.

Would you be bothered by this, especially if this was a non-themed event and the food was served by Waitstaff in a indoor and elegant setting?
Dear John G,
Thank you, in a way, for pointing out my errors in grammar contained within my question. Based on your snotty and concendingly pointless response, please do me a favor and fill in the blanks to the following word that best describes you:

Thanks.

Can someone please fill me in regarding lead content in the glaze of ceramic and stone dinnerware?

Posted by Admin on 02 Sep 2010 | Filed under: Uncategorized

Ookay. I have some Stoneware and Ceramic Plates, and I realize that the majority of glazed dinnerware is contaminated with lead, in sufficiently high enough quantities that people have actually gotten lead poisoning from eating off of and storing food in these things. This isn’t just exclusive to foreign dinnerware, either. Those tested that had come from the United States and Europe rated just as bad.

I have a few Stoneware plates that were made in Japan, and are probably seven to fifteen years old. They are solid white, and although they have ridged patterns embroidered around the top edges, are devoid of any kind of paint or colorations. Could these have lead?

I also have a set of "Gibson – China" ceramic plates and coffee mugs that are all white in color. These too have ridged patterns on them, but like the stoneware, are solid white with no paint or colors. Could the glaze of these be contaminated with lead?

Also! Can lead absorb through the skin? Meaning, if I had contact with dinnerware that was contaminated in that I simply handled it, could the lead migrate through my skin and into my bloodstream?… Or if I washed my hands right after, would it all come off and I’d be fine, without having a single atom or smidgen worth of lead get into my system?

When did the Heirloom pattern in the Winterling Bavaria line start being manufactured?

Posted by Admin on 01 Sep 2010 | Filed under: Uncategorized

This is a white porcelain pattern with a platinum scalloped edge. No design other than that. The coffee cups are footed. Manufactured by Royal Heidelberg. I saw some on e-bay just describes them as "old" I am curious how "old" that really is

Could you please help me replace a beautiful, small coffee mug? It broke this a.m. What's the company's name?

Posted by Admin on 01 Sep 2010 | Filed under: Uncategorized

I think it’s a replica of a 19th Century famous, reputable and historic pottery/china/cookware maker with distinctive insignia; they possibly also did textile. I think from New England. Possibly what’s referred to as in the craftsman style, but I don’t know about that for sure. This is not real expensive, and I think the company does online mail order.

The mug is thick, white, nice porcelin. A 1/4" dark green band runs just below the rim. A much narrower band runs parallel below it, about an inch down. Within this inch between these bands are three equilidistant figures: One looks like an one of those universal circle signs for men or women. Inside the circle is something that resembles 2 mirror-imaged "Rs" that looks like a cattle ranch insignia.

The second figure resembles the letter "T" as if it were made with 6 children’s blocks–3 brown, 1 white and 1 the same dark green.

The third, the smallest, looks like an old-fashioned man’s hat; it’s the same brown. Thanks.
